Sunnyslope capitalized on mistakes by Arcadia on Friday and pulled out an 11-4 baseball victory in the Skyline Tournament at Sunnyslope High School.

Two second-inning Arcadia errors gave Sunnyslope four unearned runs right away. Arcadia battled back and closed the gap to 5-4, but a five-run fifth put the game away for the Vikings.

“You can’t give any team more than three outs,” Titans manager Ken Rudolph said. “When that happens, good things happen for them and bad things happen for you.”

Trailing 5-0, Arcadia had a big fourth inning to climb back in the game. The Titans scored four runs, highlighted by a RBI double by Eddie Lyon.

In the decisive Sunnyslope fifth, the Vikings had six straight runners reach base, including back-to-back doubles by Jake Mitchell and Connor Freeman.

Mitchell finished 3-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored. He was a home run short of hitting for the cycle.

The loss was Arcadia’s first on the young season. The Titans conclude tournament play at 10 a.m. Saturday at home.
