Arizona State University coach Dennis Erickson was up front about what he needed: help up front and fast. The Sun Devils announced Wednesday that they signed six offensive linemen, the most since 2002.

“Where do we have to get better to compete for a Pac-10 championship next year?” Erickson said in a statement released through the school. “We thought we need a couple junior college offensive linemen, which we did in this class.”

ASU signed six junior college transfers, a move that drew mixed reviews from recruiting services. Scout.com rated ASU's class 27th in the nation. Rival.com had ASU 35th. ESPN only ranks the top 25 and did not rank ASU.

“It is a good junior college class,” Erickson said.

Three offensive lineman were among the Sun Devils junior college transfers.

ASU landed tackle Brice Schwab, an offensive tackle who was on USC’s radar before the Trojans changed coaches. The Devils also grabbed two players from El Camino College in Southern California, guard Chris DeArmas and tackle Aderious Simmons.

“Now to add these [players] to our offense front along with our freshmen,” Erickson said. “We finally have some depth and we’ll be so much better there.”

The Sun Devils signed four players from Arizona: Ramon Abreu from Marcos de Niza, Josh Fulton from St. Mary's, Jordan McDonald from Saguaro and Taylor Walstad from Chandler.
