The Maricopa Rams used a devasting second quarter to defeat the Arcadia Titans 66-29 in girls basketball on Friday at Maricopa.
Arcadia took an early lead in the first quarter, 9-1, but the Rams’ senior point guard, Amanda Hamm, didn’t allow Maricopa to fall too far behind. She made a free throw and a jumper to get the team going. Brittany Parks scored the last four points of the quarter off of a fast break and an open shot to pull Maricopa within three, 11-8, at the end of a quarter.
In the decisive second quarter, the Rams had an eight-point scoring streak and didn’t allow the Titans to score until the final two minutes of the half. Maricopa led by 20, 37-17, at intermission.
The Rams had good ball movement throughout the game. They hit the open person for the jump shots, drove to the basket and broke the Titans’ press.
The Titans fought hard to get back in the game in the second half, going on a seven-point run, but the score at the end of third was 53-26 Maricopa. Arcadia scored just three points in the fourth quarter.
Andrea Gomez had eight rebounds for the Titans. Megan Gillespie led Arcadia scorers with eight points.
Hamm scored a game-high 22 points for Maricopa. Parks added 16.
After two games on the road, the Titans will play home on Tuesday against Notre Dame. |
