The Notre Dame Saints used a big fourth quarter to defeat the Arcadia Titans 53-36 in girls basketball Tuesday night at Arcadia.
Each quarter was full of intense play and possession changes, but at the end of every quarter, the Titans trailed by just a few points.
They were down by just two, 36-34, entering the final quarter before the Saints put the game away. Notre Dame spent much of the quarter at the free-throw line.
A three-pointer by Gianna Grumbein gave Arcadia an early lead in the first quarter, but the Saints followed her bucket with an eight-point run. The Titans’ Megan Gillespie scored a three-pointer at the buzzer to pull the Titans within two at 13-11. The Saints led 23-20 at half.
In the third quarter, the Titans took a short-lived lead after Jenna Longo hit a three-pointer and Grumbein hit a jump shot. The Titans’ improved rebounding in the third quarter kept the game close, as both teams went back and forth each possession with points, fighting for the lead. Notre Dame’s Monica Turley scored two points off a fast break to give the Saints the lead at the end of three.
Gillespie was the Titans’ top scorer with 11 points. Anna Hughes of Notre Dame led all scorers with 12.
The Titans will play another home game Friday against Seton. |
