The Williams Field Black Hawks held off a second-half rally by the Arcadia Titans Friday night for a 47-42 girls basketball win at Arcadia.

The Black Hawks took a big lead early in the game. They had a 10-point run before the Titans put points on the board, led 13-3 at the end of a quarter and 22-12 at halftime. They were aggressive offensively and had quick passes and good ball movement that gave them open shots. Kenzie Pennberton, the point guard, drove the Black Hawks’ offense.

Arcadia began to turn it around in the third quarter. Gianna Grumbein hit a three-pointer, Megan Gillespie made three points at the line and the Titans held the Black Hawks to only six points in the period, pulling to within eight, 28-20, after three.

But Williams Field opened that back up to 11 at one point, and the closest Arcadia could get was four points. Grumbein hit two three-pointers in the fourth. Gillespie had a big three-point play, a wide open three-pointer and three two-point shots.

Gillespie was the leading scorer for the Titans with 15 points. Grumbein finished with 12. Andrea Gomez had 10 rebounds for the Titans, and Jenna Longo had six.

The top scorer for Williams Field was Pennberton with 16 points.
