Xavier runners finished first and second Saturday in the girls varsity race and won the top three spots in the girls open race in the George Young Invitational cross country meet.
Senior Jessica Tonn finished the 5 kilometer course at The Sanctuary Golf Course in Scottsdale in 18 minutes, 01.1 seconds. Teammate Sarah Fakler, a freshman, finished second in 19:19.4.
Xavier easily outdistanced the rest of the field, scoring 52 points. Highland, led by freshmen Ashley Hatch and Kristy Rush, finished second in the team standings with 95 points. Hatch placed sixth (19:58.4) and Rush eighth (20:09.6).
Pinnacle senior Christen Collins was third (19:37.9).
In the open girls race, Xavier juniors Christian Andreen (21:18.9), Catherine Fakler (22:05.5) and Sarah Roessler (22:13.2) finished 1-2-3. The Gators finished first in the team standings with 29 points. Corona del Sol was second with 53 points. |
