With the exception of an early slipup by Santos 93 in Saturday’s second-round matchup against Cisco 93 Black, Santos dominated, winning by a score of 2-1 in a U17 boys State Cup quarterfinal at Reach 11 that was much more lopsided than the score indicates.

Santos got things started off early. In the seventh minute, Jeremy Steiner booted it from just inside the penalty box over the head of Cisco’s goalkeeper, giving his team a 1-0 lead.

Cisco responded quickly, however. Just four minutes later, in what had up to that point been a very physical match, Cisco’s Ahmed El-Zaharna was knocked to the ground inside Santos’ goal box, setting up a penalty kick, which he drilled past a diving Santos goalie.

After tying the game, though, Cisco was on the defensive for much of the rest of the game, as Santos was just too aggressive on both sides of the ball to give Cisco a clean look at the goal.

Santos, the much more physical team, repeatedly attacked the Cisco goal, finally capitalizing when Julien Dragomir scored deep inside Cisco’s box halfway through the second half, giving his team the go-ahead and eventual game-winning goal.
