With one big inning, the Scottsdale Fever topped the AZ Dynasty 7-2 Sunday in the ASA Winter Classic 14u championship game at Papago Park in Phoenix.
After collecting only one hit through the first three innings, the Fever pushed all seven of their runs across in the fourth on six hits, a walk and an error.
Cheyenne Tucker and Mariah Valencia started the inning off with back-to-back singles. Following a double steal and a wild pitch that plated Tucker, Bailey Hinkle tied the game with an RBI single. The Fever went ahead a few batters later on an RBI single by Lauren LaTerra.
Fever leadoff hitter Skylar McCarty put the game out of reach when her bases-loaded RBI single rolled between an outfielder’s legs. As the ball made its way to the fence, McCarty scampered home after her three teammates.
Dynasty scored both of their runs on a two-out, bloop single by Caitlyn Cromer in the third inning. With Liz Baier and Vanessa Cooper on base, Cromer fought off a low slider and popped the pitched into short right field.
In addition to smacking an RBI single and scoring a run, Fever pitcher LaTerra shut down the Dynasty for most of the game. She pitched a pitched a six-inning complete game, striking out six. |
