The AZ Shockwave rallied to beat the Queen Creek Lady Cats 7-5 Sunday in the final game of the 16uB Triple Crown Sports January Championships at Desert West Sports Complex in Phoenix.

Courtney Stoll hit two home runs and drove in six for Shockwave, which fell behind 5-1 after an inning.

“Courtney played amazingly well today,” said Shockwave coach Steve Captain. “Her two home runs are what really brought us back.”

The Lady Cats’ five-run first included Brooke Vanbeekum stealing home. Becca Huerta scored the Shockwave’s run on an RBI single by Jenna Huerta.

Stoll’s first homer came in the bottom of the third, a powerful shot over the fence in left that plated Dani Nelson and Jenna Huerta to pull Shockwave within one at 5-4.

Her second three-run homer in the fifth, which also soared over the fence in left, was the game-winner. The game ended in the middle of Shockwave’s at bat when time ran out.

“I am so proud of the team. We got down early but the girls still didn’t give up,” said Captain. “Our pitcher, Dani (Nelson), deserves a lot of credit. We didn’t give her the defensive support we should have, but she played hard and kept her concentration for the whole game.”

Nelson helped herself defensively, too, snagging a hard line-drive to rob Jenna Coates of a hit in the top of the fifth.
