After giving up a 5-3 lead before the time limit expired in the sixth, Householder took advantage of the International Rule and scored baserunner Kelsey Montgomery on a gutsy play.

Montgomery started the inning on second base due to the rule and advanced to third on a bunt by Ashley Palmer. With two outs, Kayla Bonstrom drew a walk and took off for second after reaching first base. After a throw down to second put Bonstrom in a pickle, Montgomery darted home and scored to steal the victory for Householder.

Creed closed a 2-run deficit in the top of the sixth to force the late-inning drama. Brandy Heimburg started off the rally with a single and quickly scored on an RBI double by Alie Vela to make it a 5-4 game. Vela scored the tying run a batter later on an RBI single by Brittany Dvorak.

Kasia Smith put Creed within striking distance an inning earlier when she drew a bases-loaded walk. Heimburg scored on the play to shorten the Householder lead to 5-3. Heimburg, Vela and Dvorak all singled in the inning to load the bases for Smith.

Householder broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the second to secure a lead it would hold until the final inning of regulation. Raianna Dobbs singled and scored on an RBI double by Shelby Pacheco. After Tess McPherson drew a walk, Pacheco scored on an RBI single by Haley Culley.

McPherson gave her team a 4-1 lead when she scored on a throwing error later in the inning.

Householder went up 5-1 an inning later on a solo homerun by Palmer.

Both teams exchanged runs in the first inning. Monique Duran scored Heimburg with an RBI single down the line for Creed before the Hotshots struck back when Nikki Giannonatti scored Heimburg with an RBI double.

Hotshots-Shepherd 8, Tucson Impulse 3

The Hotshots put together one big inning to down the Impulse 8-3 for the 18u 3-4-championship.

After going down 3-0 in the first few innings, the Hotshots took the lead for good with eight fourth-inning runs. Paige Vallejos started the inning off with a single and moved to second on a pass ball. After a single by Erin Salterfield moved her to third, Vallejos scored on an RBI liner to right by Brittany Moralez.

A few batters later, Rikki Bay plated Salterfield with an RBI single up the middle. Tatum Youngblood then singled to load the bases before Moralez scored on a wild pitch to tie the game 3-3.

A play later, the Hotshots took the lead when Bay scored on Lan Redmond’s RBI single.

Following a walk to Jessica Jantz, Vallejos and Tatum Reedy hit back-to-back two-RBI doubles to give the Hotshots an 8-3 lead and finish the scoring.

The Impulse started off the game hot, scoring two runs in the first and one run in the second.

In the bottom of the first inning, Chelsie Harres walked with one out, stole second and advanced to third when Amanda Miller reached base on an error. After Miller stole second, both girls scored on a wild pitch.

The Impulse added one more run in the second when Symantha Holuber singled and scored when Kelsey Perpignoni reached base on an error.

AZ Jaguars 7, East Valley Pride 4

Slugger Megan Ward and the Jaguar offense got off to a quick start and held off the Pride to secure the 16u championship.

The Jaguars put up five runs in the second inning on the strength of a grand slam by Ward. Olivia Both and McKenna Isenberg singled before Natalie Both plated her sister with an RBI single. Katie Renick then singled to load the base and set the stage for Ward’s heroics. With the bases juiced, Ward put the Jaguars up 6-0 when she sent a towering drive over the outfield wall.

The Pride looked stagnant the first half of the game but began to chip away at the lead in the fourth. After Heather Shomperlin singled and Taylor Peterson drew a walk, Bria Schmidt knocked in Shomperlin with a long fly to centerfield.

Peterson cut the Jaguar lead to 6-2 when she scored on a single to center by Lexi Pederson.

The Pride added one more run in the bottom of the fifth when Shomperlin knocked in Stephanie Montanenz with an RBI double.

The Jaguars responded with one run in the top of the sixth to take a 7-3 lead. Sara Sterkenburg laid down a bunt single to start the inning and later scored on an RBI single by Natalie Both.

The Pride pushed across one more run in the bottom of the sixth when Schmidt walked and scored on a RBI double by Sami Hansen.

The Jags put up their first run in the first inning when Renick scored on a single by Daytona Everett.
