Arizona State beat Nebraska 1-0 Saturday night at Farrington Stadium to complete a perfect day of softball.

The eighth-ranked Sun Devils beat 23rd-ranked Brigham Young University 11-6 Saturday afternoon in Tempe.

Hillary Bach pitched a complete-game shutout to lead ASU (23-2) past Nebraska. From the end of the first to the middle of the fifth, Bach retired 13 of 14 Cornhuskers.

Sam Parlich singled in the top of the fifth to break up Robin Mackin’s bid for a no-hitter. With two outs in the inning, Caylyn Carlson doubled, driving in Parlich for the game’s only run.

Nebraska loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the sixth. Bach then showed why she was named to the Freshman All Pac-10 First Team last year. The sophomore pitcher got two Cornhuskers to ground out to short before striking out the final batter of the inning to escape with the shutout intact.

The Devils fell behind BYU early on a home run in the bottom of the first, but they were not trailing for long. Carlson hit a grand slam in the top of second, and ASU never looked back. All four runs were unearned; two Cougar errors prolonged the inning.

Arizona State extended their lead in the third when Katelyn Boyd led off with a single. Kaylyn Castillo and Krista Donnenwirth followed with back-to-back doubles. All three scored.

Bach retired the final eight batters in order and was credited with her first save of the season. Megan Elliott (9-1) pitched 4 and one-third innings and was credited with the win.
