Players often dream of making a national team. Former Worth Firecrackers and Corona del Sol star Ashley Hansen was named to two teams Monday that will represent the United States in international softball competition this summer.
Hansen was named to the USA Women’s National team and Pan-Am qualifier team. The teams, along with the Japan Cup team, were selected by the Amateur Softball Assocation, the governing body of softball in the United States.
K’Lee Arredondo, who played at McClintock and for the Firecrackers, was named to Pan Am Qualifier team. Former OC Bat Busters and Cactus High School star Stacie Chambers and former SunCats and Tucson Sabino star Molly Johnson were named to the Japan Cup team.
Pac-10 coaches voted Hansen, who played shortstop at Stanford, the conference’s Freshman of the Year. Hansen started all 53 games at shortstop for the Cardinal, posting a team-leading 48 RBI.
Arredondo, a junior shortstop at Arizona, was a second team all-Pac-10. Chambers, a sophomore catcher at Arizona, was a first team all-Pac-10 selection.
Johnson, a junior at Kentucky, was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association second-team All-America, becoming Kentucky's first-ever All-America honoree in softball. She set school records for runs scored (53), hits (81) and on-base percentage (.498).
